Gregulation Ginnissues

14 Nov

So it’s all true: the man himself, Greg Ginn, is back on the sonic attack.

He’s got a trio of brand new releases, all brought to you by the revitalized SST Records. Don’t ask me if they’re any good; at this point, I’m so goddamn excited as to be totally unreliable. You’ll wanna check these babies out for yourselves.

But: the new contact details for SST Records suggest Greg has up and moved to godforsaken TAYLOR, TEXAS. Ack! If it is true, here’s hoping CHUCK DUKOWSKI, JACK BREWER & MIKE WATT will follow him there. These guys need to stay within spitting distance of one another (if only for my piece of mind).

One more obsessive comment, then I’ll stop. Currently on my 4th rotation of the Epic Trilogy. He’s BACK, in a big way, tonally. Thick, sarcastic, HUGE sound coming from them magical fingers. It’s like going back in time and hearing Slip it In again. Me thinks you will be floored. Then again…………..

I’m already on the floor, and I haven’t actually heard em yet (other than what’s up on the websites). Sadly, I don’t think they are available yet in the UK, where I live. It figures – it’s like the bloody 2nd world out here.

And on another note… don’t forget the album he is currently recording with TEN EAST, to be available exclusively on Lexicon Devil in Jan/Feb ’08 (plug plug). More news on all that as it comes in. Gary Arce promises it to be a monster, and has told me the recording is nothing like the previous Ten East CD (Extraterrestrial Highway: now available on Lexicon Devil… jesus christ, I am SHAMELESS!!), but a far more aggressive, angular approach, going for a Gone/Crimson/Sharrock/Don Cab kinda sound, if you know what I mean. Should be good!

We will be making the downloads available through the websites in the near future. If you don’t want to wait, or if you’re old school and want the tangible version, you can order them directly from

Glad you’re all so pleased! Keep your ears open, he’s already working on another new project. 2008 looks very promising for Ginn fans!

Dave – we ain’t forgetting about TEN EAST. Never. We just think of it as Gary’s thing, not Greg’s.

Andi – yes I might just have to pay for the downloads. It always feels a bit insubstantial to a guy like me (who’s still in possession of a big ol’ LP hoard!), but so what. If I’ll get to hear it, I’m game.

Does anybody know if Andy Batwinas is a “real” person or just a in-joke name for Ginn’s drum machine?

He’s a real live dude for sure – and no Dale Nixon either. Outside of his numerous credits on various Ginn projects, I think he also did some fairly mainstream/pop production work at some point.

Yes… Andy Batwinas is a real person… I am he!!! I work for Greg for a number of years and programmed a lot of drum tracks… including the Epic Triology… Those tracks were recorded in 1998!!!

Good to see Greg is still at it!

That’s “worked” for… past tense… doing other things these days.
